Sharing our Region's Bounty

This past fall, we had the opportunity to pool our resources here and share the best of the region's bounty with writers from around the United States and Taiwan. What a BLAST!  Here is a great piece published via Peter Greenberg Worldwide that came from that trip -- and our heartfelt thanks to David Latt for sharing the cool things he experienced here!

The Ultimate Cheeseburger, part 2

Ok, if you know me, you  know how much I love a good burger.

I even left my multiple-year vegetarian streak due to the craving of a meaty mess of burger-goodness.

Bring on the Capone's Ultimate Cheeseburger!!  Made with love, flavor and paired with a tasty local IPA, this was the lunch of champions.

Been to Capone's lately? Get there - both Coeur d'Alene and Post Falls locations offer this king of burgers, and you can add your favorite from a variety of toppings.

See you there!

Dinner #1 - Italia Trattoria

The first dinner on our trip was at Italia Trattoria in Spokane's Browne's Addition neighborhood.  In a word, WOW.

Flap steak, quail, oxtail lasagna from left to right. That last one is Kevin Finch of Big Table, expressing how we all felt about this meal.

If you haven't been in to experience what Anna, Bethe and their team are sharing here, get rolling to Italia Trattoria soon!

Sometimes it's hard to make up your mind...

Enoteca's Russell and Sarah Mann know what's best for us. When it comes to beer tasting, it can be very difficult to make up our minds for which ones we are in the mood for.  Solution? The Beer Flight.

Their Beer Flight is a 3 ounce taster of four beers. Perfect way to find the one you like the best, then still have room to have a full one...or their 64 ounce logo growler, if you're taking it to go. Show your friends where you shop!

Currently on tap at Enoteca are St. Feuillien Green Flash Biere de L'Amite (Belgium), Dogfish Head Namaste Belgian Witbier, Deschutes The Stoic Belgian Quadrupel and Grand Teton Lost Continent Double IPA.

Personally, a growler of IPA may indeed suit us just fine!!

Go Greek!

Having grown up in the Spokane area (and being really old, or so my sons tell me), I have been to the annual Greek Festival in Spokane on numerous occasions.  It is, in one word, delicious.

From the Greek coffee to the souvlakia, olives and anything with feta, I happily eat it all. Be quick - the festival is this Friday and Saturday (9/29-10/1) at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Spokane, 1703 North Washington Street. You can find more information here or call them at 509.328.9130.

One of my sons asked how many of these 76 years of Festival I have been to -- not the full 76, but thankfully a fair share, I told him.

Hope to see you there this year!

Burger Stop - MoonDollars, Post Falls, Idaho

I love a good burger - and stopped in to MoonDollars to try theirs out recently.

Tried out the Big Dipper Burger, $7.95 - we upgraded to sweet potato fries for an extra $2.00, and it was worth it! The burger was a half pound beauty made from freshly ground, hand-formed beef, topped with choice of cheese, all the fixins - including their specialty fry sauce.

Rathdrum Prairie Wheat is used daily for their housemade buns and pizza crusts - soft and delicious!

The day we stopped their house special was $1.00 off their Star Blast Chicken Panini - grilled chicken breast, topped with chipotle sauce, provolone cheese, lettuce on grilled rosemary ciabatta bread. Even at normal price of $8.95 they'd have me at chipotle sauce...but it was, indeed, a Burger Crawl. They also have a Reuben, which is my plan for my next stop here.
